Twisted wall ties, also known as PWD ties, connect the leaves of brick cavity walls. They are made from fully galvanised mild-steel wire, with a twisted profile that provides a mechanical key in the masonry. Standard lengths and wire diameters are listed in the size table. Select a tie length normally 20–30 mm shorter than the total wall thickness, subject to the wall design. Typical usage is approximately 3–4 ties per square metre, with custom sizes available on request.
